He Will Return
Today’s Scripture:
“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!”
- Acts 1:11 NLT -
Considering Jesus is not physically on earth, it can be easy to forget that he is alive, in heaven, seated at the right hand of God on the throne. Such is the saying, "out of sight, out of mind." Nevertheless, Jesus is alive and not in the form of a ghost; he is an actual person with human flesh and bone. When Jesus rose from the dead after being in the grave for three days, he revealed himself to his disciples on several occasions. There was an occasion when his disciples thought he was a ghost, and this was Jesus' response in Luke 24:38-40:
"Why are you frightened?" he asked. "Why are your hearts filled with doubt? Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it's really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don't have bodies, as you see that I do." As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet."
After Jesus revealed himself to his disciples in his resurrected form, he ascended into heaven. However, he will return to the earth someday. Many years have passed since he returned to heaven, but the day draws closer to his return. The Father is the only one who knows when that day will come, but until then, we all have a chance to believe in Jesus Christ and accept him as our savior.
God the Father desires no man to perish and live an eternity without him. There is one way to have eternal life and be reconciled back to God, and that way is through faith in Jesus Christ. The love of God that sent his beloved son to the cross as a sacrificial lamb for our sins is the same love that will send his son back to redeem us. Beloved, I pray you are ready when that faithful day comes.
