God is Great!

God is great! God is as vast as his creation because the creation is a reflection of its Creator. God created all of us, and no human being, past or present, is the same. We all have a measure of God's glory that he uniquely created us to display. It takes enormous numbers of people to show his glory, which doesn't even include nature and all its living creatures. Therefore, considering the vast number of people that existed and exist today on the planet, we see how great God is.

As I meditate on this, I understand that when the Holy Spirit reveals a treasure to us, it is just a measure of God, even though the revelation is life-changing. I also realize that the more revelation one receives, the more humble one should be because the closer you are to God, the bigger he becomes. Think of it like approaching a great mountain. The further away you are, the less impressive the mountain appears, but as you move closer to it, you begin to see it for its proper size and glory.

Perhaps humility indicates one has a revelation of God and not just knowledge of God. Paul prayed in Ephesians, chapter 1:15-18, "that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him." The Holy Spirit must be the teacher of the knowledge we gain about God. Separated from the Spirit, knowledge of God has no transformative power, and such knowledge will likely result in self-righteousness because it doesn't bring one close to God.

We learn in 1 Corinthians 2:10-12 that the Spirit of a man knows the man and that the Spirit of God knows God. The same scripture says that the Holy Spirit searches the deep things of God and reveals them to us. Therefore, the Spirit must be the teacher to those seeking to know God because apart from the Spirit, it is merely knowledge, and God doesn't want us to only know of him; he wants a relationship with us. I pray that as we grow in knowledge, we do so by the Spirit; and remain humble because God is truly Great.

Amen.
